Course Description

This beginner course will introduce American Sign Language (ASL) structure, basic skills, and vocabulary.  It will include vocabulary development, finger spelling, and information about the deaf community.

Absences

You are responsible for all materials presented in class lectures as well as assigned homework. You should be aware that missing class could adversely affect your performance during class and homework. It is your responsibility to obtain all materials missed and complete all assignments, even if you missed the class where the assignment was made.

 

Assignments
All assignments are due on the following Monday.  Late submissions will not be accepted, except when notice is received within 48 hours of extenuating circumstances.

 

Signing Quizzes

There will be three signing quizzes during class.  Signing quizzes will not be able to be made up except when notice is received within 48 hours of extenuating circumstances.

 

Final Exam

A final exam will be given.  It will be 50% written, and 50% signing.  The final will not be able to be made up since it will be held during the last class.  If you are not able to attend the last class, arrangements can be made to take the exam prior to the last class.

 

Grading

Grading for the class will be as follows:

Attendance – 10%

Class Assignments – 10%

Home Assignments – 10%

Signing Quiz 1 – 10%

Signing Quiz 2 – 10%

Signing Quiz 3 – 10%

Class Participation – 20%

Final Exam – 20%
