Reflection

This e-portfolio comprises of works that represent my progression into what I hope to be an effort towards magis.

The first artifact is a research project I co-authored with some colleagues at Marquette University. In any undertaking, it is important to have solid foundation which means understanding the theories that work into the profession and using that knowledge to enhance the skills requisite in teaching.

Constant reflection and assessment of oneself is important to an educator as well. Teachers are often bombarded by different teaching trends and each of them enticing. However, a teacher needs to sift through these “suggested” ways and assess which one works (for both the teacher and the students). The second artifact therefore is a reflection on the practice of using technology as an educational tool.

It is not enough that we research and accept the things we have read and form conjectures of our own without having to do a hands-on experience. My third artifact features a WebQuest I have designed. I was able to hit two birds with one stone. Firstly, it gave me the opportunity to apply what I have researched in a previous project and secondly, it paved the way for a better understanding of the nature of assessments (as it was the topic the quest revolved on). In  my effort to make strides towards magis, I refrained from being too theoretical. I subscribe to my belief that theoretical foundation is good but experience matters because it concretizes the learning.

My last artifact though focuses on the issue of blogging as a means to help students deepen their critical thinking. The overall theme of the blog entry is to challenge educators to find different and creative means possible to elevate the student’s minds.

In my ongoing  and fervent holistic development  through technology, arts, etc, I believe I have come closer to achieving magis. The drive for excellence and  the desire  to be “a woman for others” has helped me hurdle many challenges in trying to understand and execute tasks related to these artifacts. I have become more confident in using such platforms and I am looking forward to exploring others. Through using various types of media, I hope not only to bring myself towards achieving magis but to also offer the possibility of magis to my students.
