In the beginning of my leadership class, I like most others thought that it would not be that difficult. Of course, I was wrong! Leadership is such a broad spectrum of things. There are so many aspects of what leadership is and what it can pertain to. Leadership can be related to strength and power, knowledge, perserverence and determination, commitment, and the ability to influence. By knowing just a few of  aspects of leadership, I have gained a great amount of respect to the leadership status. Leadership, to me, is a quality grasped by many but performed by few.

At the start of our leadership class, we were to choose a leadership project. Our group decided on childhood cancer. We felt that bringing people together on an important cause such as this would be a positive experience. Shining some light on childhood cancer would bring awareness to the cause as well as provide a means of people's support. The main goal of our project was to give to the children what most of us in this world already have, love and support. We wanted them to know that we cared! Therefore, Project Care 4 the Cure was created!

Although our group found a great project, the road to reaching our goals was not a straight one. Coming together with all of our ideas in the beginning, was most chaotic. All of us had great ideas and plans, but we could only choose one project. After debating our options gathered through mutual thoughts and ideas, we were able to agree on a project. Thankfully, even out of the chaos in the beginning, our proposal for our project was accepted. Then the winding road to completing our mission began.

Each of us had ideas to base our project around. This made planning a little difficult. Our group had to learn that coming together with a mutual outcome would better the chances of our project being successful.I definitely had to learn this, because I wanted to take off with the planning right away.  We decided to research different foundations in order to view their support of childhood cancer. The search for a foundation ended when we came across B.A.S.E. camp childhood cancer foundation. This foundation contained all of our common interests and goals.

Our mission was to collect money and food for the foundation. Figuring out what we needed to do to accomplish this was interesting and a learning experience in leadership. The group decided on a bake sale and a canned food drive. The hard part was coming together on the location and what we all had to do and bake! Using the process of elimination, we decided on the school atmosphere, hoping that students would be enthusiastic about the cause and would be more likely to buy SWEETS! Finally, we had a planned event schedule and just had to follow it.

The outcome of our project was successful, although it was a difficult process. I learned that it takes a group effort to get things accomplised in life whether it be a school project or becoming a professional in your career field. Mutual goals are better attained when everyone's ideas are gathered and acknowlegded. Everyone needs to be included on decision-making in order to make tasks go smoother. This is because everyone will feel that they are a part of the team and are vital to it's success. It is hard to agree with everyone, because most people feel superior of their own thoughts. When people can listen and give others a chance to provide input, leaders are more effective in their job. Spreading out the leadership roles can increase interest of the team and can create an influential wave of greatness.

Thank you all for your support!
