Semester 3

The 3rd semester was an awesome learning experience. The classes this semester

were tough, but I learned a lot about medical surgical and pediatric nursing.I learned so

much about nursing in clinical at MTMC because this was my first real experience in a

hospital setting taking care of patients. I have improved my nursing assessment skills

and I have also learned to use the nursing process to diagnose and create care plans

for my patients. This semester has given me so much confidence in my ability to provide

professional nursing care to patients. The goals that I personally set for myself at the

beginning of the semester include: pass Med/Surg with a B and to become more comfortable

in the clinical setting. Overall I have had a great semester and I look forward to walking

across the stage next year. Lessons learned during my 3rd semester include: IV therapy,

medication administration, insertion of a foley catheter, medical surgical nursing, pediatric

nursing and how to communicate effectively with nurses and doctors. Improvement plan

for next semester is to study more and work on my time management skills. I also need

to work on taking my tests with more caution and quit second guessing my answers.

I left the 3rd semester feeling like I had grown so much as a nurse since my 1st

semester of nursing school. Being able to actually work in a hospital taking care of

patients made me feel very good about myself. One of my patients this semester

wrote me a letter telling me how much she appreciated me being a caring kind nurse.

I will never forget my first clinical nursing experience during 3rd semester in nursing

school.
