Information

Leukemia is a malignant disease of the bone marrow and blood. It is characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of blood cells.Lymphocytic leukemia is the leukemia cell that starts the disease makes too many lymphocytes that do not function. These cells replace normal cells in the marrow and lymph nodes. They interfere with the work of normal lymphocytes, which weakens the patient's immune response. In 2008, there is an estimate of 53,000 people die of Leukemia and Lymphoma cancer. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.Every 5 minutes someone new is diagnosed with Leukemia.  Every 10 minutes someone dies from Leukemia or Lymphoma.

Light the Night Walk is the nation’s chance to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) relies on generosity of others to fund lifesaving research.  LLS invested $600 million in research since 1949.  The LLS has set a goal to find a cure by 2015. Help Support the cause by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  The Light the Night Walk will be held Friday, October 3, 2008 5:30 p.m. @ Forsyth Park
