Personal Reflections

This project was a new and rewarding experience for me.  This was the first time that I have worked on a project in the community.  The fundraising sometimes seemed like a daunting task, however we pushed threw it and I am glad that it is was a success.  We had a small group of only three people so it was easy to work together as a team.  I believe that everyone tried there best and went above and beyond when needed.  Our main goal was just to raise awareness about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).  I believe that we accomplished our goal.  We tried not to focus on money but to focus on the amount of people we were reaching out too.  I found the most rewarding part was simply passing out flyers to raise awareness.  It gave me a chance to meet new people and show the community that their are people that still care.

There was a huge turn out for the Light the Night Walk.  It was great to see so many people come out and show their support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I believe that this was the most rewarding part of the whole project.  Just getting to experience how many people care about others.  I also got to speak to a few cancer surviers.  To hear their testimonies and know that I have made a small difference in someones life just like them really gives me a feeling of satifaction.  It really touched me to my soul.  I will never forget this experience or my hard working group members.  Thank you for everything.

The Light the Night Walk is the first fund raising event for a medical cause that I have participated in, and it was truly a rewarding experience. At first the task seemed unattainable because we were all still in clinic four days a week, so we could only meet on the weekends. Every weekend we were either putting on a bake sale, passing out flyers, asking for donations at restaurants, cooking lunch plates, passing out lunch plates, or putting our webpage together. Due to our hard work and dedication we were able to meet our goals for this project. Our goal was to raise $500.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Through bake sales, lunch plate sales, and donations we ended up raising $525.00. It feels good knowing that our hard work went to such a great cause. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you have such a great team to work with. I am very proud of our accomplishments and I would be honored to work with this foundation at next years walk.

The walk for tonight was successful with many participates. I have never experienced any kind of fund raising or walking like this to help the community. When I got to Forsyth park, there are so many people trying to register to walk. They were all there to support the survivors and to show love, memory and caring to the cancer patients and patients’ families. It has inspired me that people are so caring of others.  Also I am proud to be a part of AASU and to participate on this project.

When working on this leadership project, it helped me build more confidence when talking to difference group of people. I was very nervous at the beginning when passing out flyers, presenting the facts of Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer to supporters and students, and explaing how people can help raising the curve. I was not so sure that I would able to do it but with the helps of Kushara and Tisha, I was accomplished my goal.
