Interpretation/sensory detail

Writing showed little evidence of mastery of the assignment. The writing did not identify what was happening in the photo. Only 1 sense was evoked through the writing.
Fair

Writing sample showed partial mastery of the assignment. The writing identified the subject of the photo and 2- 3 senses were evoked.
Good

Writing clearly defined what was happening in the photo and 3-4 senses were evoked skillfully and with ease.
Verbs and adjectives

Poor

Use of passive verbs throughout the writing with bland uninspired adjectives.
Fair

Some active verbs were used but also some passive verbs. Some use of strong adjectives but there may be some vague language or expected language.
Good

Active verbs were used throughout the writing and adjectives are colorful, vivid, and specific.
Grammar/spelling

Frequent errors in grammar throughout writing - enough to be distracting to the reader.

Some minor errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization but not distracting.
Good

Rules of grammar and conventions are followed throughout the writing. No obvious or distracting mistakes in capitalization, spelling, punctuation, or verb usage.
MLA format

Poor

Several rrors in MLA format or MLA heading, may not be typed or may not include a heading. No title.
Fair

May have a title but it is not creative. Some minor errors in MLA format/heading.
Good

Typed, 12 font, TN Roman, double spaced, creative title is present. Correct MLA heading is included.
