Level 1

The student did a minimum to complete artwork or the artwork was never completed. Did not attempt to use the techniques of abstraction, simplification and exaggeration.
Level 2

The student did the assignment adequately, yet it shows lack of planning and little evidence that an overall composition was planned. There is some evidence of the use of the techniques of abstraction, simplification and exaggeration.
Level 3

The artwork shows that the student applied the principles of design while using one or more elements effectively as well as the techniques of abstraction, simplification and exaggeration.
Level 4

Planned carefully, made several sketches, and showed an awareness of the elements and principles of design; chose color scheme carefully and considered the techniques of abstraction, simplification and exaggeration.
Overall Creativity and Originality

Level 1

The student fulfilled the assignment, but made little effort with regards to design or the artwork was never completed.
Level 2

The student tried an idea, and accepted help to solve problems adequately showed little effort with regard to originality.
Level 3

The student tried a few ideas for selecting one; or based his or her work on someone else's idea; solved the problem in logical way.
Level 4

The student explored several choices before selecting one; generating many ideas; made connections to previous knowledge; demonstrated an understanding of problem solving skills.
Overall Effort

Level 1

The project was mostly completed and a minimum amount of effort was used. The student does not take pride in the outcome or The student did not finish the work adequately, missing details or aspects of the assignment.
Level 2

The student finished the project, but it could have been improved with more effort; there was adequate interpretation of the assignment, but a lack of finish.
Level 3

The student worked hard and completed the project, but with more effort it might have been outstanding. The student took pride in having completed the work.
Level 4

The project was continued until it was complete. The student gave it effort far beyond that required. The student took pride in going well beyond the requirement
Craftsmanship

Level 1

Student's work shows little attention to detail or technique. Mask construction exhibits major flaws or totally fails. Student did not exhibit safe handling or art media.
Level 2

Student's work shows some attention to detail and technique. Mask construction has some flaws, but otherwise is adequate. Student exhibited some safe handling or art media.

Student's work shows attention to detail and technique. Mask construction has only minor flaws, but otherwise is successful. Student exhibited safe handling of all art media.

Student's work shows great attention to detail and technique. Mask construction has no flaws, and is successful. Student exhibited safe handling of all art media at all times.
