Focus	Exceptional Writing is clear and coherent; appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.	Good Writing is mostly clear and coherent; appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.	Fair Writing is somewhat clear and may be confusing at times; task, purpose, and audience may not be clear.	Needs Work Writing is unclear and confusing; is not appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

Expression of Self	Exceptional Letter clearly demonstrates how the writer has been affected by the "teacher".	Good Letter explains some ways the writer was affected by the "teacher".	Fair Letter does not tell much about the affect of the "teacher" on the writer.	Needs Work Letter does not reveal any ways in which the writer was affected by the "teacher".
