Write Your Own Declaration of Independence Rubric Declaration of Independence You are fed up with all the rules imposed on you and have decided to do something about it. Using the format of the original Declaration of Independence, draft your own declaration. Include all sections reviewed in the lesson. You may use some of the same language as the Declaration of Independence but be sure your reader understands: 1. Your reason for writing, 2. What you feel your "natural" rights are, 3. the complaints you have, and 4. What you are doing about it. Format	Good Contains all 4 sections. Sections are clearly defined. Well written with little to no spelling or grammatical errors.	Fair Contains 2-3 sections. A few spelling or grammar errors that do not distract from writing.	Poor Contains less than 2 sections. Several spelling or grammar errors that distract from writing.
Preamble	Good Well written and clearly declares independence from a person or group.	Fair States independence from a person or group but lacks supporting details.	Poor Does not clearly state independence from person/group.
Natural Rights	Good Large number of natural rights included shows understanding of Declaration of Independence. Writing flows and is written clearly.	Fair Includes a few natural rights but not enough to show an understanding of the Declaration of Independence.	Poor Only a couple of natural rights listed in the writing. Writing lacks clarity/organization.
Wrongs Committed by Person/Group	Good Wrongs committed by the person/group are stated clearly. Writing is clear and makes sense.	Fair Only a few wrongs listed in the writing. Is well-written but lacks clarity.	Poor Is not clearly written. Only a couple of wrongs committed by the person/group included. Writing is sloppy and unorganized.
Conclusion	Good Clearly sums up the paper and declares freedom from a person/group.	Fair Writing is not entirely clear but makes sense and flows well. Summarizes paper.	Poor Does not summarize the paper. Unorganized and unclear.
