Compare/Contrast Origin Stories Compare/Contrast film and book The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. Introduction	Excellent Clearly outline the titles of both the film and the book, provides a brief summary of each story and makes connections to the genre.	Good Mentions both film and book, identifies some aspects of the stories and mentions genre.	Fair Organisation of introduction needs work: Either film or book title are missing.	Needs revision Little or no introduction, ideas need to be organised cohesively.
Body paragraphs	Excellent Each pragraph identifies and lucidly explains an idea and supports with evidence from both stories.	Good Each paragraph identifies ideas. May need more evidence or evidence may need to be balanced from both stories.	Fair Better organisation-evidence from the story should match the idea being presented.	Needs revision The essay resorts to retelling of each story - aspects of plot, character and theme must be discussed.
Vocabulary	Excellent Vocabulary - i.e., word choice is strong and shows understanding of the meaning.
