Vocabulary	Basic Conversation uses few vocabulary words in the target language. There is no variety in the use of the words. They are mostly repeated and include many mistakes in the use of their meanings.	Fair Conversation includes some variety in vocabulary, using some of the vocabulary that we learned in class and have some mistakes in meaning.	Good Conversation includes a good variety in vocabulary, using much of the vocabulary we studied, and uses most of the words accurately.	Advanced Conversation includes lots of variety in vocabulary, using almost all the vocabulary studied while using them all accurately.
Grammar	Basic Conversation uses few grammar structures, or has many grammatical mistakes.	Fair Conversation uses the basic grammar we studied, and has some mistakes.	Good Conversation uses the basic grammar we studied, plus extralinguistic background knowledge from the native language, and has occasional mistakes.	Advanced Conversation shows a good command of the grammar we studied, plus other grammar we already know from native language, and has very few mistakes.
Pronunciation	Basic Pronunciation is hard to understand, or shows no effort to pronounce French correctly.	Fair Pronunciation is understandable, but there are many sounds produced incorrectly.	Good Pronunciation is understandable and most sounds are produced correctly.	Advanced Pronunciation is understandable and nearly all sounds are produced correctly.
Creativity	Basic Conversation imitates examples from our book or others we have seen in class almost word by word.	Fair Parts of the conversation imitate examples we have seen in class or in our book, but at least some parts are original.	Good The conversation does not imitate models we have already seen, and holds our interest.	Advanced The conversation surprises us, makes us laugh, or is convincingly realistic as well as unexpectedly impressive!
