Student puts forth little to no effort on a daily basis, and therefore has no foundation in technique.
Progressing
Student is behind where the average student in the class is technically. They may not know the warm-up completely, and are behind in the book.
Good
Student is with the class technically. They make few mistakes, and they are progressing through the book at an average pace.
Excellent
Student is with or ahead of the rest of the class technically. Student can play warm-up flawlessly and is at an above average pace in the book.
Playing Fundamentals
Poor
Student has little knowledge of fundamentals due to lack of participation in class or extreme lack of focus.
Progressing
Student is inconsistent with the fundamentals of the instrument. Shows basic recall of correct knowledge, but does not employ it regularly.
Good
Student's hand position, posture, breathing, and embouchure are acceptable, though sometimes are lacking due to lack of focus or effort.
Excellent
Student's hand position, posture, breathing, and embouchure are excellent and consistent.
Reading and Theory
Poor
Student has little to no knowledge of theoretical principles due to lack of participation or effort.
Progressing
Student is lacking in basic theory knowledge due to difficulty or lack of focus.
Good
Student shows a good basic repertoire of knowledge of note readnig, rhythmic reading and theoretical devices, but does not have fluency yet.
Excellent
Student shows fluent and consistent knowledge of note reading, rhythmic reading, and theoretical devices.
Effort
Poor
Student puts forth no effort.
Progressing
Student puts forth minimal effort, or just enough to get by. Student is easily distracted or lazy.
Good
Student is focused most of the time. They may be easily distracted but put forth an acceptable effort.
Excellent
Student is consistently focused, on task, and encourages other students to do the same.
Behavior and Responsibility
Poor
Student is disrespectful frequently. Frequent or constant talking and disruptive behavior. Does not care for their instrument properly.
Progressing
Student is often disruptive and occasionally disrespectful. Occasionally will not take proper care of their instrument.
Good
Student is usually respectful and means well, though is often distracted by others and frequently talkative. Students are usually responsible with their equipment
Excellent
Student is respectful to students and teacher. Student generally does not distract class. Student is consistently responsbile with their equipment.
