Applying/Proficient Student visually/graphically demonstrates clear understanding of the theme through artifacts/images that are referenced in the text	Developing Student's choice of visuals do not demonstrate clear understanding of the theme graphically through artifacts/images that are referenced in the text or through artifacts that do not appear in the text	Emerging There is no theme. The student simply wrote a topic or summarized the story. Student did not create a visual/graphic display of a chosen theme from the novel.
Argumentative Paragraph	Advanced Theme is clearly well supported and analyzed with more than 2 pieces of evidence, with citations.	Applying/Proficient Theme is supported by 2 pieces of evidence from the text clearly analyzed with citations in text.	Developing Theme is not completely supported by evidence , or only one piece of evidence supports the theme.	Emerging The theme is not supported at all. There is no evidence.
Neatness/Effort	Advanced The project shows thought and effort to illustrate the chosen theme from Out of the Dust.	Applying/Proficient The project is organized, neat, and readable. It has minimal mistakes.	Developing The project appears to be "rushed." There are several grammatical errors.	Emerging There isn't any color and the project is sloppy and full of errors.
