I contribute my ideas and questions during Socratic seminars and class discussions.
I complete the assigned readings faithfully and prepare my notes thoroughly for Socratic seminars and class discussions.
I practice active listening like taking notes, as well as acknowledging and/or connecting to other people's ideas before contributing my own to the conversation.
I offer thoughtful ideas, ask probing questions, and make sophisticated connections that help advance everyone's understanding of the text or concept.
When participating in Socratic seminars and class discussions, I look at or face the person speaking and use eye contact to show I am listening. I practice turn-taking conventions like raising my hand to show I have something to contribute. When necessary, I engage others in the conversation by using their names.
Regardless of the topic of discussion, I stay positive, keep an open-mind, and use respectful language that encourages others to participate.
I use appropriate grammar, usage, and vocabulary, rephrasing and rewording my ideas when necessary to help others understand my message.
