Prayer Writing 
Students will write a prayer to St. Agnes. Prayer should be thoughtful, reverent, and meaningful. Prayer should connect to the life of St. Agnes and/or those she is a patron saint to. Prayer must include a relevant and creative hand-drawn illustration.

The prayer is creative and/or thoughtful. Work appears original and not repetitive.
Excelling

Prayer is creative and original. It is evident that the student put thought into their words and uniquely conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Details and Imagery

Beginning

Difficult to visualize image or emotion;limited or no details.
Meeting

Some details are provided. Some use of image, idea, or emotion.
Excelling

Vivid, detailed images and intensely felt emotion make the prayer come alive.
Prayer creatively uses techniques to provide insightfulness for the reader.
Grammar/Spelling

Beginning

There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the prayer difficult to understand. Punctuation is used incorrectly.
Meeting

There are 1-2 spelling or grammar errors; does not distract from the readability of the prayer. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.
Excelling

No spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors.
Illustration

Beginning

Illustration is missing or shows minimal effort and/or illustration is not relevant to St. Agnes.

Illustration shows effort and connects to St. Agnes. It is relevant to the topic.

The prayer is missing two or more components (Dear St. Agnes / Amen) and/or there are less than 6 lines or more than 9 lines in the body of the prayer.
Meeting

The prayer is missing one component. and/or there are less than 7 lines or more than 9 lines in the body of the prayer.
Excelling

All components are included. Prayer has a minimum of 7 and maximum of 9 lines in the body of the prayer.
