(N/A)

Understanding of how forces work.

steps used to create the machine and attempt to describe the physics of the machine.

Needs Work

No information or very little information. Not sequenced well. Students attempted to describe the physics of the machine, but lacked detail and specifics.
Good (C)

Shows a good understanding of forces. Uses terminology to explain machine and how it works. Explained how the forces transfer energy to the machine. Explained how change of direction or speed also has an effect on their machine.
Well Done (A/B)

Shows a great understanding of the use of force on objects and why they are important to movement in specific and concise terms and included other physical calculations and information beyond energy, force and momentum. Can explain how forces (Push pull friction or gravity) transfer energy to the machine. Discussion on successes and failures.
Individual/Team effort

Team effort - involvement of each member.

Needs Work

Each member is unsure of what their role is. Not able to explain what they did to bring the presentation together. Machine needed human intervention to work.
Good (C)

Some members explained their roles and what they did to bring their machine together. Able to present their
Well Done (A/B)

Each member gives a little of the information to explain a very well sequenced talk. Annotated diagram and written explanation was clear and well presented.Machine did not need any intervention.
Materials/Theme/Creativity.

Appropriate use of materials and theme to match the steps.

Needs Work

There were inappropriate use of materials. Not well thought through. Students attempted to construct the machine, but did not complete the process.Students used other examples of Rube Goldbergs, but did not include new ideas.
Good (C)

There were some good use of materials to show forces to work. Machine had a name and the steps were well presented and used some new ideas to showcase their machine.
Well Done (A/B)

Excellent use of materials. Each piece was appropriate for the action it was doing. Machine had a name, included additional components to assure creativity and consistency.
Presentation

written, oral and video come together to show a clear Rube Goldberg format.

Needs Work

Didn't explain what the machine was doing. Mumbled voice not clear. Unclear explanation of how the machine works or did not complete the process. Plan was vey simple with none or little annotation.
Good (C)

Clear voice easy to understand. Was able to tell us what the machine was for. Is able to explain how the machine works. Some members presented.
Well Done (A/B)

Strong, clear voice easy to understand and great expression. Explained what the machine was doing. Each member was able to explain their contribution to the machine and the process they went through. A well presented entertaining use of materials to show a very simple task in a complicated way. Illustrations and annotated drawings were used to help give a clearer understanding.
