Student was well prepared, using class time to rehearse and perfect scene. Student did not have to call for "line" during performance.
Vocal Clarity/ Expression

Weak

Student does not speak clearly, stumbles over words and is often inaudible to the audience. Little or no vocal variation is utilized so the intended emotion is diminished or lost.
Average

Student speaks clearly at times throughout performance with minor stumbling over words.
Strong

Student speaks clearly and distinctly with some minor lapses in volume, pitch, tone, tempo and inflection
Excellent

Student speaks clearly and distinctly while utilizing appropriately varied volume, pitch, tone, tempo and inflection. Vocal expression clearly conveyed the intended emotion.
Dramatic Pause/Pace

Weak

Student did not intentionally use this device. Delivery was choppy with no logical clusters. Pace was either too fast or too slow. Audience engagement was hindered.
Average

Student uses dramatic pause with mixed results. Pacing was too fast/too long and felt hurried/too drawn out.
Strong

Student uses dramatic pause/pace but struggled to improve the meaning or dramatic effect of the monologue while <BR>
minimally engaging the audience.
Excellent

Student uses dramatic pause/pace to effectively communicate the meaning and impact of the monologue while successfully engaging the audience.
Characterization

Weak

Student established little or no character as evidenced by the student merely delivering someone else's lines. There was no evidence of character dimension and complexity. Clearly did not understand the use of C.R.O.W.
Average

Character was established, but was inconsistent throughout performance. Showed little understanding of C.R.O.W.
Strong

Student clearly prepared and established the character yet the delivery lacked understanding of character dimension and complexity. Demonstrated the use of C.R.O.W.
Excellent

Student clearly prepared and established the character. The dimensions and complexities of the character were embraced and delivered. Student clearly created a "moment before" and "moment after." Showed clear understanding of C.R.O.W.
