Does Not Yet Meet Expectations Minimal or not insight and interations with article 4 or less annotations	Approaching Expectations Moderate insight and interactions with article (questions, inferences, connections, reflections). 5-9 annotations.	Meets Expectations Insightful and thoughtful interactions with the article (main idea stated with specific examples from the text, inferences, comments, connections, vocabulary, reflections). 10 or more annotations.
Vocabulary	No Effort No effort to interact with article.	Does Not Yet Meet Expectations Student identifies a few words (less than three) and may or may not define them using Context Clues.	Approaching Expectations Student identifies six vocabulary words and accurately defines them using Context Clues.
