(15 POINTS - 5 maximum points each section) Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be determined. All students are expected to participate in class! I do understand that some students are shy and participate in ways other than class discussion. Forms of participation other than participating in class discussion (although this is a primary form of participation) include contributing to paired discussions, and participating in small group work.

Student is absent three or more times, or more than 5 min late three or more times.

POOR
Student has four or more absences or is rarely on time.

Participates in class.

Excellent

EXCELLENT
Student often asks and answers questions.
Good

GOOD
Student sometimes asks and answers questions. It is clear the student has been paying attention when they are called on.
Fair

FAIR
Student rarely participates in class, and usually does not provide an answer when called on, or, question has to be repeated because of inattention.
Poor

POOR
Student never participates in class, never answers when called on.

Student is a silent observer during extra-credit group exams, and does not provide ideas and input during paired discussions.
Poor

POOR
Student does not attend class for extra-credit group exam and avoids pairing up with other students during paired discussion.
