Student is well prepared and it is obvious that they have rehearsed the poem thoroughly and is able to present it without error.
Good

Student is well prepared but the presentation of the poem requires a few more rehearsals to eliminate minor errors from which they recovered with out assistance from the teacher.
Fair

Student is not well prepared and would benefit from many more rehearsals and needed teacher prompts in order to move forward.
Weak

Student is obviously unprepared for the task and has not memorized the poem.
Pausing and Pacing

Excellent

The student uses pauses and pace effectively to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.
Good

The students uses pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.
Fair

Pauses and pacing were not used to enhance presentation, student just got through with it and said the words.
Weak

Pauses were not intentionally used. Delivery is either too quick or too slow. Reads words with no logical grouping.
Physical Presence

Excellent

Student employs proper posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact.
Good

Student employs proper posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident, and maintains appropriate audience contact most of the time, shows some evidence of nerves.
Fair

Student is nervous but prevails in the presentation and shows best effort to maintain audience contact.
Weak

The student slouches, looks uncomfortable and makes no effective contact with the audience at all. Tension and nervousness is obvious.
