The learner introduces self to patient and provides an explanation of the procedure. The learner discusses effects and adverse effects of the medication with the patient.

Asks the patient about any allergies and assesses swallowing ability before giving them any oral medications.

If pouring from a multi-dose bottle pours the tablets/capsules into the bottle lid before placing in a medication soufflé cup, If obtaining tablet/capsule from a punch pack, places the medication soufflé cup behind the pack foil before punching the tablet/capsule through, and If opening an individual pill container, gently pulls the backing from the packaging and pours the tablet/capsule into a medication soufflé cup.
Sets the liquid medication cap upright on the medication cart, holds the liquid bottle with the label against the palm of the hand, places the plastic medication cup on a flat surface at eye level, and Wipes the neck of the bottle with a tissue and reapplies the bottle top.
Uses problem solving as required. Re-positions patient if necessary. Holds water and/ or medication if required. Assists patient to place medication in mouth as required.
Documents correctly in the medication chart following the patient ingesting the medication and in the patient notes as required
