Speech Clarity Rubric A rubric for noting strengths and growth needs for clarity of speech in conversation and academic discussions.
	Needs Support Lacking the needed skill so as to cause listeners difficulty in following the speaker's message. 1 pts	Approaching Proficient Approaching proficient yet lacking the needed accuracy for listeners to fully understand the message. Listener may need to ask clarifying questions to get the full message. 2 pts	Proficient Skill is fully Proficient allowing ease and comfort of speech with easy understanding by listeners. 3 pts
Volume Consistent ease of hearing speech	Needs Support Difficult to hear, spoken too quietly for situation.	Approaching Proficient Inconsistent volumes, some good yet changing so as to be difficult to hear.	Proficient Constant, full volume, easy to hear.
Clarity/diction Ease of understanding due to proper pronunciation of speech sounds.	Needs Support Difficult to understand most of his message due to missing sounds or mispronunciation of words.	Approaching Proficient Improper or indistinct use of consonant or vowel sounds making some words hard to understand.	Proficient Clearly articulated speech which is easy to understand. Occasional words may still have errors but are recognizable.
Speed The rate of delivery with too fast or slow being the lower skill	Needs Support Way too fast to be understood or too slow to maintain listener's focus.	Approaching Proficient Inconsistent pacing, some too slow or too fast with some appropriate rate to allow for some word recognition.	Proficient Paced at a speed that enhances clarity of speech.
