Following Directions	Poor Did not follow directions, did not finish or is missing significant sections.	Fair The project is missing some aspects or some sections.	Proficient The project is missing a few aspects or sections. Followed most directions correctly.	Excellent The project is complete. All directions were followed. Work is in the correct format. Student has elaborated on the assignment. Student has chosen the most challenging options. Student has requested assistance/feedback. Student has followed recommendations given.
Mastering the Material/Technique	Poor Art work shows limited technique and understanding of art concepts presented in class.	Fair Art work shows some technique and understanding of art concepts presented in class.	Proficient Art work shows good technique. The work reflects concepts discussed/presented in class.	Excellent Art work shows a mastery of techniques taught in class and reflects a deep understanding of concepts discussed in class.
Craftsmanship	Poor The artwork shows limited craftsmanship and limited attention to control, adaptation, selection and experimentation of medium/media. Art work is messy and shows smudge marks, rips, tears, or folds.	Fair The artwork shows average craftsmanship and average attention to control, adaptation, selection and experimentation of medium/media. Art work is somewhat messy and shows either smudge marks, rips, tears, or folds.	Proficient The artwork shows good craftsmanship, with some attention to control, adaptation, selection and experimentation of medium/media. Art work is neatly kept.	Excellent The artwork shows outstanding craftsmanship,with clear attention to control, adaptation, selection and experimentation of medium/media. Students use of materials is innovative. Art is in impeccable condition.
Effort	Poor The student put forth little effort to finish the project; class time was not used well. Student did just enough to meet the requirements.	Fair Art work is complete but it lacks some finishing touches or can be improved. Class time was used adequately.	Proficient Art work is completed in an above average manner, yet more could have been done. Student needs to go one step further to achieve excellence.	Excellent Art work is completed with excellence and exceeded teacher expectations. Student exhibits exemplary commitment to the project.
