Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal or unoriginal.
Developing

The poems are creative but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.
Established

Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.
Excelling

Poems are creative. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and conveyed their ideas and emotions. The student also followed correct rules for each type of poetry.
Reflections & Summary

For each poem, the student explained in writing the characteristics of the poetry and how it creates imagery. Including a summary of each poem read or written.

Beginning

The reflections did not include any literary devices such as imagery, sound effects, and rhyming pattern. A short summary with no evidence or connections to the poems.
Developing

The reflections use some literary devices. A short summary with one or two connections to the poems.
Established

The poems incorporate several literary devices which demonstrate mastery. Adequate summary with more than two connections to each poem review.
Excelling

The portfolio demonstrates thoughtful reflections on each form of poetry. They included their personal ideas, thoughts, and emotions and were detailed in their summary. Detailed summary with full and clear connections to the poem and their ideas.

The poetry portfolio must contain 3-5 different forms of published or original poems. The portfolio also must include poetry definitions, descriptions, summaries, and related activities.

All of the poetry types were described and identified. Clear and detailed descriptions were used. Expanded on ideas, including additional resources or poetic devices.
Attractiveness & Neatness

The portfolio is colorful and includes pictures.The portfolio is organized.

The poems and portfolio are attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. The project has 1-2 errors, or some sheets are creased but were submitted in a portfolio.
Excelling

The portfolio is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness. The portfolio project is free from any errors and the sheets are not creased. It is apparent that the student took care in producing it.
Technology & Collaberation

The portfolio used technology to research meanings, gather information and share their work. The students shared their work with the class.

Beginning

No research was done or utilized during the project. Did not share the project with peers or anyone.
Developing

A few resources from online research were used. The student shared their project with one other individual.
Established

Four or more resources from online research were used. The student shared their project with 2 or more individuals.
Excelling

Six or more resources from online research were used. Resources and research were evidence-based and trusted. The student shared their project with the class, community, and their parents.
