Focus/Comprehension	Poor Student did not follow outline written or theme given on exam page.	Fair Student followed theme but showed little knowledge or comprehension of the topic given.	Good Student obviously understood topic given and stayed on track with the theme at hand.	Great Student obviously understood topic given and not only stayed on track but brought new ideas.
Details/Support	Poor Less than 5 details or techniques were given.	Fair Five techniques were given but few details were written about each. Work was done minimally to achieve passing grade.	Good Five techniques were given and student displayed adequate support for ideas.	Great Five techniques were given and student displayed mastery of topic by using excellent support.
Word Count	Poor Student wrote less than 90 words.	Fair Student wrote 90-100 words.	Good Student wrote 100-110 words.	Great Student wrote over 100 words.
Use of Outline	Poor Outline was obviously left unused for essay portion of exam or did not often match essay.	Fair Outline and essay matched at times, but work was done minimally to acheive grade.	Good Outline and essay matched adequately.	Great Outline and essay matched completely; essay obviously was based upon and enhanced by outline.
