Final Paragraph Rubric Criteria
	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Topic Sentence The paragraph begins with a topic sentence that presents a single idea in a concise and clear way.	Excellent Topic sentence has one main idea and the main idea is easy to understand.	Good Topic sentence contains one main idea.	Fair Topic sentence is written, but not complete.	Poor The paragraph does not contain a topic sentence.
Detail Sentences The body of the paragraph supports the topic sentence with meaningful details.	Excellent The body of the paragraph supports the topic sentence with meaningful details.	Good The body of the paragraph supports the topic sentence but also introduces a new idea that is unrelated.	Fair The body of the paragraph does not support the topic.	Poor The paragraph does not contain a body of at least three detail sentences.
Closing Sentence The paragraph ends with a closing sentence that summarizes the topic sentence and the body.	Excellent The closing sentence restates the topic sentence in a creative way.	Good The closing sentence restates the topic sentence.	Fair The closing sentence does not restate the topic sentence.	Poor The paragraph does not contain a closing sentence.
Punctuation and capitalization Capital letters and periods are used according to grammar rules.	Excellent Capital letters and periods are used correctly 100% of the time.	Good Capital letters and periods are used correctly with less than two errors.	Fair Capital letters and periods are used correctly with less than five errors.	Poor Capital letters and periods are used with five or more errors.
