Response meets the standards for the task, with minimal lapses in speech. It is highly intelligible and shows sustained, coherent discourse. 1~3 errors
PRESENTATION
Well-paced flow (fluid expression). Speech is clear. Speaker may have minor lapses, or minor difficulties with pronunciation
or intonation patterns, which do not affect overall intelligibility.
LANGUAGE USE
The response shows
effective use of grammar and vocabulary. It demonstrates a high degree of spontaneity with good control of basic and complex speech structures. Minor errors.
DEVELOPMENT
Response is sustained and sufficient to the task. It is well developed and coherent; relationships
between ideas are clear (or clear progression of
ideas).

the standards appropriately, but may fall short of being fully developed. Generally intelligible and coherent, with some
issues regarding fluidity in speech. 4+ errors
PRESENTATION
Speech is clear,
with some fluidity of
expression, though minor difficulties with pronunciation,
intonation, or pacing
are noticeable and may require listener effort at times. Overall intelligible.
LANGUAGE USE
Response shows a
fairly spontaneous and effective use of grammar and vocabulary, and fairly coherent expression
of relevant ideas.
Response may exhibit
some imprecise or inaccurate vocabulary.
DEVELOPMENT
Response is mostly coherent and sustained and conveys relevant
ideas/information. Development is
limited and lacks elaboration or specificity. Relationship between ideas is not clear.

DESCRIPTION
Response addresses
the task, but overall development of the topic is limited. It contains intelligible
speech, problems
with delivery and/or
overall coherence occur; meaning is obscure. 7+ errors
PRESENTATION
Speech is basically intelligible, listener effort is needed because of unclear articulation, awkward intonation, or choppy rhythm/pace; meaning very obscured in places.
LANGUAGE USE
Response shows limited range and
control of grammar and vocabulary. Limitations prevent full
expression of ideas. Only basic sentence structures are used successfully. Only simple or general
ideas are presented.
DEVELOPMENT
Response is connected
to the task, but ideas are very limited or non-existent. Only
basic ideas are expressed with limited or no elaboration. No obvious connection
between ideas is made.

DESCRIPTION
Speaker makes no attempt to respond OR response is unrelated to the topic. Multiple Errors in all categories. (more than 10)
PRESENTATION
Speech non-existent. Offers no attempt to verbalizes answers.
LANGUAGE USE
No understanding of simple and/or basic language that would be present with beginning level learners.
DEVELOPMENT
No ability to create speech using any type of development or rote processing.
