Identifying Metaphors	Exceeds Expectations Student correctly identifies all metaphors and marks them by underlining.	Meets Expectations Student identifies at least 7 of the metaphors correctly.	Needs Improvement Student identifies less than 7 of the metaphors correctly and/or does not follow directions by underlining them in the sentence.
Creating Metaphors	Exceeds Expectations Student uses the provided words to write three metaphors and makes a clear comparison between the words.	Meets Expectations Student uses the provided words to write at least 2 metaphors and makes a clear comparison between the words.	Needs Improvement Student writes less than 2 metaphors and/or does not make a clear comparison.
Writing with Metaphors	Exceeds Expectations Student incorporates all three metaphors into complete sentences and uses them correctly within the context of the sentence.	Meets Expectations Student incorporates at least two of the metaphors into complete sentences and uses them correctly.	Needs Improvement Student writes less than two complete sentences and/or does not use the metaphors correctly.
