Realistic Self Portrait
Carefully studied observational self-portrait drawing. Pencil and graphite powder are the media used to build a range of value. Notice that there is no grade for likeness. The proportions, value, craft and effort are most important.

Showed 3-4 values of shading. Missing some areas of darkest value (black)shadow/ cast shadow. Missing some areas of highlight and half-tone values.
Proficient
Showed little range of values (1-3).Much of the drawing has no shading on it. Much of the drawing is smeared together, making it all one value

Little to no shading is apparent. Shows contour lines.Composition is more about Line and not Value.
Proportion

Student has carefully observed proportions, to keep accuracy. Strong resemblance to the subject.

Student has considered position while some proportions may be off a good effort was made to create a resemblance.

Student may not have considered proportions or used the grid method to help. While there is some resemblance further study is needed.

Student has not considered basic facial proportions. Shows little concern from gaining accuracy.

The student put forth extraordinary effort to complete the project as well as possible; used class time extremely well. Portrait contains a word.
Accomplished
The student put forth the effort required to complete the project well; used class time well.
Portrait contains a few letters.
Proficient
The student put forth the effort required to finish the project; used some class time adequately.
Portrait contains 1-2 letters.
Apprentice
The student put forth little effort required to finish the project; class time was not used well.
Craftsmanship
Advanced
Great pride and care has been taken by the artist to present a neat, unmarred, and flat final composition ready for mounting.
Accomplished
Composition shows some lack of care- slightly creased or smudged.
Proficient
Composition shows greater lack of care- multiple creases or crumpled, smudges, etc.
Apprentice
Composition shows signs of neglect that demonstrate the artist's lack of pride in the work.
