Elements of Design 25 % 10 points possible	No effort (F) Student shows no effort	Minimal (D) The student did the minimum or the artwork was never completed.	Fair (C) The Student did the assignment in a satisfactory manner, but lack of planning was evident.	Good (B) The artwork shows that the student applied the principles discussed in class adequately.	Excellent (A) The artwork shows that the student applied the principles discussed in class in a unique manner.
Observation/Creativity 25 % 10 points possible	No effort (F) Student shows no effort	Minimal (D) Student's artwork reflects some resemblance to the observed object and shows little evidence of original thought.	Fair (C) Student's artwork reflects resemblance to the basic shape of the observed object and lacks much originality	Good (B) Student's artwork reflects careful observation of the object studied and demonstrates originality.	Excellent (A) Student's artwork reflects careful observation of the object studied and small details are obvious with a unique level of originality.
Effort 25 % 10 points possible	No effort (F) Student shows no effort	Minimal (D) The piece shows little or no evidence of original thought.	Fair (C) The student finished the project, but it lacks finishing touches or can be improved upon with little effort.	Good (B) Colored pencil is applied in a careful, logical manner. Colors remains sharp and texture is evident	Excellent (A) The student gave an effort far beyond the requirements of the project.
Painting Skill 25 % 10 points possible	No effort (F) Student shows no effort	Minimal (D) Student needs to work on controlling paint and preplanning paint application. Muddy colors, ragged edges, lack of texture, drips and/or blobs are evident throughout the painting.	Fair (C) The composition has small objects and needs more to fill the space.	Good (B) The composition is visually well balanced.	Excellent (A) Application of paint is preplanned and done in a logical, sequential manner.
