Informational Essay 
Students will complete a short informational 3 paragraph essay. Writing will be graded on capitalization, punctuation, use of main idea and supporting details, spelling of high frequency words, plural and possessive noun use, subject/verb tense and agreement, and relevant information.

Demonstrates thorough knowledge of topic-includes specific, original supporting details related to the main idea. Also includes at least 3 quotations from the chosen person to validate their knowledge on the topic. (One quotation for each topic presented)

Demonstrates basic knowledge of topic- uses general supporting details related to the main idea. Also includes at least 2 quotations from the chosen person that support the topic of the paper.
Below Average

Demonstrates some knowledge of topic- general supporting details are random with gaps that confuse the reader. Includes only one quotation from the chosen person that supports the topic of the paper.
Needs Improvement

Demonstrates limited awareness of the topic- very few or no supporting details used. No quotations from the chosen person used to support the topic of the paper, or the quotations used do not support the main topic of the paper.
Organization

Excellent

Follows the three-paragraph structure for an essay with a clear introduction, one main body, and conclusion. Follows a logical order that is easy for the reader to follow.
Average

Follows the three-paragraph structure for an essay, but does not follow a logical order.
Below Average

Shows an attempt at following a three-paragraph order but contains gaps or missing a portion that confuses the reader.
Needs Improvement

Exhibits little or no evidence of organizational structure; no evidence of following the three-paragraph format.
