Discussion postings This rubric is intended for lower-division undergraduate or HS online courses whose students are new to online learning.
	Advanced 5 pts	Proficient 4 pts	Partially Proficient 3 pts	Unsatisfactory 0 pts
Critical Thinking Question Poster provides a thought or question that shows a depth of knowledge of topic.	Advanced A critical thinking<BR> question, or thought, relevant to the topic and/or question, that will stimulate discussion, and length above minimum requirements, is provided in one, or more, postings	Proficient A critical thinking<BR> question or thought that will stimulate discussion and is of minimum length is provided in one, or more, postings	Partially Proficient A question or though<BR> is provided in one, or more, postings did not meet length requirement, but information is complete.	Unsatisfactory A critical thinking<BR> question or thought is not included in any posting, length was not met, nor was information complete.
Mechanics Posts need to be grammatically correct.	Advanced All postings are<BR> mechanically and grammatically correct no spelling errors	Proficient Postings contain 1-3<BR> spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors	Partially Proficient Postings contain 4-6<BR> spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors	Unsatisfactory Postings contain<BR> more than 6 spelling, grammar, or<BR> punctuation errors.
Timeliness To further discussion, posts should be timely so students have an opportunity to respond to each other and instructor.	Advanced Posting is made early and one (or more) response(s) was completed before Friday.	Proficient Posting is made by Friday and response(s) is complete by Saturday.	Partially Proficient Original posting is not made until after Saturday and no response to classmate(s) is completed.	Unsatisfactory No original posting or response made.
Response Each poster will be responsible for responding to other posters, or instructor.	Advanced Poster responded to minimum of required responses, with thoughtful or helpful ideas and questions. Postings and responses are respectful in tone and encouraging	Proficient Poster responded to some responses, not critically asking questions or providing guidance. Postings and responses are mostly respectful in tone.	Partially Proficient Poster responded with only "I agree" or something similar. Postings and responses are bordering on disrespectful or sarcastic.	Unsatisfactory Poster did not respond to others. Poster flamed/trolled others.
