This rubric will assess a student's final grade on Art Projects. Categories Graded will be as follows: Style and Growth, Craftsmanship, Student Skill Applied/Art Technique Used, and Following Directions.

Demonstrated little to no planning. Needs to focus upon developing a clear concept. Directions were not followed. Artistic technique is not evident.
Fair (D+)

Little planning shown. Developed an unclear idea. Needs to focus upon developing a clear concept and practice the technique.
Average (C+)

Developed an idea and communicated the idea somewhat clearly.
Needs to focus upon developing a clear concept and practice using the artistic technique.
Good (B+)

Developed a good idea and communicated the idea with an original concept. Use of the artistic technique is good.
Excellent (A+)

Successfully developed an idea and communicated the idea with an original concept. Focused upon excellent mastery of the artistic technique.
Craftsmanship and Quality

Is the student putting effort into creating a quality artwork which is ready to be viewed?

Poor (F+)

Little to no details or space filled. Damaged or empty artwork. Needs many improvements and a lot of work. Little attention paid to details, possible smudges, creases, or rips. Technique is incorrect.
Fair (D+)

Little attention to quality. Low level of completion. Very little detail is evident. Partially unfinished work. A lot of empty space is visible. Technique is not correct.
Average (C+)

Artwork demonstrates some attention to quality. Improvements need to be made before the art is display ready. Some of the paper is filled with design, but more space could be filled. Pay attention to directions and technique.
Good (B+)

Good-quality artwork, some improvements need to be made before display-ready.
Skill is evident and student is progressing. A good amount of paper is filled with design. Technique is used well within artwork.
Excellent (A+)

Excellent quality artwork ready for an art show or display. Demonstrated skill and attention to detail. Most of the paper is filled and/or used wisely. Student a lot of effort into creating a quality artwork. Technique is excellent.
Skill/Technique

Is the student showing they learned the art technique and about the art medium?

Poor (F+)

Work is not challenging for student. Student used little or no skill to create artwork. Artist needs to finish or restart project. Technique is not visible or used correctly.
Fair (D+)

Work is not challenging for student. Student used a small amount of their skills to create artwork. Many improvements need be made. Technique needs additional attention and practice.
Average (C+)

Work is average quality and predictable for student. Student used some of their skills to create artwork. Improvements to be made. Further practice is needed.
Good (B+)

Work is good quality and challenging for student. Student effectively used their skills to create artwork. Minor improvements need to be made. Technique used needs a little more attention or practice.
Excellent (A+)

Work is excellent quality and challenging for student's ability. Student clearly and effectively used their skills to create artwork. Technique used is correctly.
Following Directions

Poor (F+)

Objectives and directions are not evident within piece. Student did not use the art materials correctly on this piece.
Fair (D+)

A small part of the objectives and directions are evident within piece. Student incorrectly used materials.
Average (C+)

Some of the objectives and directions are evident within art piece. Student needs to practice art materials more often.
Good (B+)

Most of the objectives and directions are evident within piece. Student correctly used materials most of the time.
Excellent (A+)

All of the objectives and directions are evident within piece. Student correctly used materials in an impressive manner.
