Opinion/Claim:	Poor The student does not state their claim or opinion.	Fair The student states a claim but does not pick a side.	Good The student states their opinion and their claim but does not include their supporting details	Excellent The student states their opinion and claim while also having a thesis and their supporting details.
Supporting Details	Poor Student provides no supporting details for their claim and uses no outside resources.	Fair The student uses little to no supporting details for their claim. Although they have done research and are working towards adding good supporting details.	Good The student is beginning to add supporting details and has used outside sources. Their facts sometimes do not support the claim but they have done research.	Excellent The student has well over 2 supporting details and pulls from different sources. The student understands how to add supporting details.
Transition Words	Poor No transition words in the paper.	Fair Little to no transition words used... if so were also not used in the correct sense.	Good The writer uses transition words well, although could use more to add a better flow to the paper	Excellent Transition words used correctly as well as being well-spread throughout the paper.
Conclusion	Poor No conclusion at all.	Fair The writer attempts the conclusion but forgets to restate their claim.	Good The writer restates their claim but needs to add transition words and one fact to back up the claim	Excellent The conclusion contains the restated thesis, transition words, and an extra fact to solidify their claim.
