Generate issues, concerns, and problems, applying background knowledge to the Future Scene. Demonstrates the ability to identify important issues and potential challenges, in particular those that may not be obvious, in the text/Future Scene. Students should demonstrate the ability to consider FPS categories in order to think of more challenges. Demonstrate the ability to clearly and concisely write the challenge, showing cause and effect and tying directly to the text/Future Scene.
Select an issue, one that will have a major impact on the Future Scene, for the focus of the Underlying Problem. Demonstrates the ability to write the Underlying Problem in correct format, beginning with the Future Scene conditions that are the basis or rationale for the idea, indicate a desired action to be taken, a purpose for the desired action, and parameters tying the problem to the Future Scene.
Produce multiple solutions that indicate a deep comprehension of the problem. Solutions are creative, relevant, address the Purpose of the UP, and contain the parameters of the Future Scene. Solutions are written correctly, including the following: a logical Who, What, How, Why (the Purpose), and Parameters of When it will be done.
Criteria are the standards by which solution ideas are judged to determine which solution will best accomplish the goals of the UP. The Student is able to generate Criteria which address aspects of the solution ideas that are very important in determining which solution will best accomplish the goals of the UP.
Determine which which solution is the best one to address the UP. Student is able to successfully use the evaluation grid to apply 5 criteria to the most promising solution ideas in order to determine the best solution to solve the UP.
An Action Plan is a proposal for solving the UP. The Action Plan is based on the best solution determined in Step 5. It should explain in detail the Who, What, How, Why, Where, and When of the solution idea. The Action Plan demonstrates how it addresses the area of concern of the UP and how it positively impacts the Future Scene. Student is able to successfully contribute the Action Plan proposed by the team.
FPS is a team competition. It is extremely important that the students work together for a successful FPS Problem. Student demonstrates the ability to work well with others, contributing positively to the team at each Step, avoids arguments and critical behavior, stays focused on the tasks and what needs to be done.
