Reader's Response: Identifying Theme 
The purpose of this rubric is to assess students' responses to reading in their reader's response journal. The response will be used to assess the reader's ability to identify the writer's ability to accurately identify the theme in the text and communicate it to the audience.

Student identifies the theme. The theme is clearly stated in the topic sentence. The piece includes a detailed response to the text that was read. Student used details directly from the story to support opinions. A concluding sentence is used to restate the theme.
