The summary includes all story elements and shows detailed knowledge of the book. The teacher understood the book and learned something new from the report. The student read the book and thought about it.

The information in the report is relevant, it relates to the book. The teacher can understand the book from the report. It is clear the student read the book.
Poor

The information in the report does not relate to the book. The student is off topic in many places. The teacher is left wondering: What was the book about, and did the student actually read it?

There are no misspellings, punctuation errors, or grammar errors within the report.

The student clearly breaks main ideas into paragraph form, and leaves out unimportant details.

Student has very few grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.

The student breaks main ideas into paragraph form, but includes details from the story that are not relevant or are unnecessary.

There are a few misspellings and grammar errors within the report.

The student uses paragraphs within the report.

There are several misspellings and grammar errors within the report.

The student does not break their writing into paragraphs and the writing is unorganized.
Presentation

The student made sure to present the information in an orderly manner and thoroughly explains his/her thoughts and ideas in a presentation. It is obvious that the student read the book and could help others understand key details from the story.

The presentation is mostly in order, but some parts were left out during the presentation.
