Grade 1 Community Helpers Project 
Students will choose a community worker and decide in which community they would belong. They will then illustrate their community worker in their community using labels. The students will write a few sentences explaining who their community worker is, which community they belong to, what kinds of tools they use, whether they provide goods or services and how they contribute to the community. Each student’s paper will they be compiled in to a communities book for our classroom library.

Progressing Towards Expectations

Information is somewhat confusing and shows an understanding of the chosen community worker. Student included at least 2 facts about their community worker. Writing is somewhat confusing with some grammatical errors.
Does Not Meet Expectations

Information is confusing and shows little to no understanding of the chosen community worker. Student included at least 0 -1 facts about their community worker or just stated the community worker. Writing is confusing.

Picture is creative and neat. Picture shows the community worker in their community using the tools of their trade and somehow indicates whether or not they provide good or services.

Picture is somewhat messy and confusing. Picture shows the community worker. The worker is shown in their community or using the tools of their trade or somehow indicates whether or not they provide good or services.

Picture is messy and confusing. The picture does not show any understanding of the community worker or their community.

Exceeds Expectations

Student is able to explain their drawing and read their writing to the class. Student is able to answer questions and is able to explain how their community worker contributes to a community.
Meets Expectations

Student is able to explain their drawing and summarize their writing to the class. Student is able to answer most questions about their project.
Progressing Towards Expectations

Student is able to explain their drawing. Student is able to answer some questions about their project.
Does Not Meet Expectations

Student only states their community worker and is not able to explain their drawing or writing. Students can not answer any questions about their project.
