Pitch
Superior
Pitches are completely accurate or no more than 1 inaccurate pitch.
Excellent
A small number of inaccurate pitches but the majority of the pitches are accurate.
Good
Close to or just over half of the pitches are incorrect.
Fair
A lot of the pitches are incorrect and only a small number are accurate.
Poor
Completely inaccurate pitches sung.
Rhythm
Superior
Rhythms are completely accurate or no more than 1 inaccurate rhythm. .
Excellent
A small number of inaccurate rhythms but the majority of the rhythms are accurate.
Good
Close to or just over half of the rhythms are incorrect.
Fair
A lot of the rhythms are incorrect and only a small number are accurate.
Poor
Completely inaccurate rhythms sung.
Tone Quality
Superior
Tone is clear and centered throughout the range of the voice.
Excellent
Tone is clear and centered through the normal singing range. Extremes in range sometimes cause tone to be less controlled. Tone quality does not detract from the performance.
Good
Tone is often clear and centered, but sometimes uncontrolled in the normal singing range. Extremes in range are usually uncontrolled. Occasionally the tone detracts from overall performance.
Fair
The tone is often not clear or centered regardless of the range, significantly detracting from the overall performance.
Poor
Mumbles, shouts, sing inappropriately, or will not sing.
Expression and Style
Superior
Performs with creative expression and style in response to the score and limited coaching. Follows melodic direction.
Excellent
Typically performs with expression and style that is indicated in the score or suggested by instructor or peer.
Good
Sometimes performs with expression and style that is indicated in the score or suggested by instructor or peer.
Fair
Rarely demonstrated expression and style. Just sings the notes.
Poor
Expression and style is completely unnoticeable.
Diction
Superior
Student articulates clearly and the text of the music is understandable.
Excellent
Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and the text can be understood most of the time.
Good
Student is sometimes articulating the words, but the text is often not discernable.
Fair
Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not discernable.
Poor
No clue as to what the student is singing.
