Descriptive Writing

Students will complete a descriptive writing promt using their five senses to create a descriptive essay. Writing will be graded on capitalization, punctuation, use of main idea and supporting details, spelling of high frequency words, plural and possessive noun use, subject/verb tense and agreement

Below Average Demonstrates an awareness of the topic and purpose, but may include material only slightly related.	Needs Improvement Is only slightly related to the topic and purpose.
Organization	Excellent Has a logical structure that flows naturally with a distinct beginning, middle, and end.	Average Has a logical order with an apparent beginning, middle, and end, although some lapses may occur.	Below Average Shows an attempt at organizing around a beginning, middle, and end, but contains gaps that confuse the reader.	Needs Improvement Exhibits little or no evidence of organizational structure with a beginning, middle, and end.
Language/Vocabulary	Excellent Has a mature use of language with a consistent variety of adjectives and sentence patterns.	Average Has language that is generally adequate with some adjectives and variety in sentences.	Below Average Has limited vocabulary. Uses basic sentence structure with few or no adjectives; repetition in sentences.	Needs Improvement Has limited or inappropriate vocabulary that obscures meaning.
