	Beginning 1 pts	Developing 2 pts	Proficient 3 pts	Advanced 4 pts
Tone/Embouchure	Beginning Tone is not well supported and airy. Notes are not clearly produced. Percussionists do not perform with a consistent sound.	Developing Tone is not well supported, but notes are all audible. Percussion sound demonstrates great variation.	Proficient Tone is fairly supported with moments of breathiness. Percussion sound demonstrates some variation.	Advanced Tone is consistently supported. Percussion sound is consistent with very minor variation.
Notes	Beginning Majority of notes are not performed, and the student cannot change between notes.	Developing Notes are sometimes correct, but student cannot change between notes without hesitation.	Proficient Notes are mostly correct, but changes between notes can be muddy at times.	Advanced Notes are correct and the changes between notes are clean.
Rhythm	Beginning Majority of the rhythms are not performed.	Developing Rhythms are sometimes correct, but there is hesitation.	Proficient Rhythms are mostly correct with few variations.	Advanced All rhythms are performed correctly.
Articulation/ Sticking	Beginning Articulations are not performed. Sticking is not followed.	Developing Some articulations are performed. Sticking is sometimes followed.	Proficient Most articulations are performed. Sticking is followed the majority of the time.	Advanced All articulations are followed. Sticking is followed correctly.
Posture/Positioning	Beginning Student is slouched and/or rests their instrument on their lap. Instrument is not held properly. Feet are not flat on the floor. Sticks are not held or positioned properly.	Developing Student is slouched. Instrument is sometimes held properly. Feet are flat on the floor sometimes. Sticks are sometimes held and positioned properly.	Proficient Students begins sitting up, but slouches as they play. Instrument is mostly held properly. Feet are flat on the floor the majority of the time. Sticks are mostly held and positioned properly.	Advanced Student sits up consistently. Instrument is held properly. Feet are flat on the floor. Sticks are held and positioned properly.
Tempo	Beginning Tempo is unsteady.	Developing Tempo is rarely steady; many pauses and changes.	Proficient Tempo is mostly steady; very few pauses or changes.	Advanced Tempo is steady with no pauses.
