Title Page

POOR

Title Page is missing.
SUBSTANDARD

Title page included, but is missing information.
SATISFACTORY

Title page included with all necessary components, but there are formatting errors.
EXCEPTIONAL

Title Page contains all parts and correct format.
Abstract

POOR

Abstract is missing.
SUBSTANDARD

Abstract is not an appropriate length, does not include all the necessary information, or is formatted incorrectly (i.e., missing keywords)
SATISFACTORY

Abstract includes most of the information necessary to summarize the research paper. Some formatting errors exist but they are minor.
EXCEPTIONAL

Abstract is the appropriate length, contains all relevant information, and is clearly written. No formatting errors are present.
Introduction

POOR

Introduction is not organized into paragraphs with introductory sentences, details or concluding sentences. Thesis statement is missing. Major points are not addressed or not well supported. There are significant formatting errors. Statements of fact are not supported by citations.
SUBSTANDARD

Introduction provides an adequate introduction to the topic. Most of the content discussed is relevant. Each paragraph begins with a topic sentence, with at least one piece of supporting evidence, and a concluding sentence. Paragraphs may not be well organized, or flow logically from one to the next. Transitions are not smooth. Not all statements of fact are supported by citations.
SATISFACTORY

The reader is introduced to the topic. The thesis is clearly stated. Information is organized in well-constructed paragraphs. Each paragraph has an introductory sentence, summarizes at least two pieces of supporting evidence, and ends with a clear concluding sentence. Paragraphs are relatively concise, although some off-topic points may be included. Major points may need to be stated more clearly or be better supported. All statements of fact are supported with appropriate citations.
EXCEPTIONAL

The importance of the paper is clearly laid out. A clear and succinct review of relevant existing literature is provided. Paragraphs are very well organized and include clear topic sentences, several pieces of supporting information, and a conclusion. Each sentence flows logically from the previous one. Transitions are smooth. The experiments are early introduced. All statements of fact are supported with appropriate citations.
Method

POOR

Methods are not adequately described. A person interested in replicating the study would have a very hard time discerning what procedures were used. There are many formatting errors.
SUBSTANDARD

Methods section includes appropriate sub-sections for the experiments described. May be missing some relevant information, or contain irrelevant details. Formatting is generally acceptable, although some errors may exit.
SATISFACTORY

All appropriate sub-sections are included, and each provides a sufficient level of detail. A person interested in replicating the study could do so with relatively ease, although some critical details may be omitted. Conversely, too much detail may be provided in places. There are relatively few formatting errors.
EXCEPTIONAL

Study methods are clearly laid out and very well organized. Equipment and other materials are described in adequate detail. Citations are included where appropriate. Every piece of information needed to replicate the study is included, but there are no superfluous details reported. No formatting errors exist.
Results

POOR

Inappropriate statistical analyses were run. Reporting of results does not comply with APA guidelines. Relevant findings are missing or incorrectly interpreted.
SUBSTANDARD

The statistical analyses are appropriate, for the most part. Relevant descriptive and inferential statistics are reported, although there may be missing values or errors in APA formatting. Tables/figures may not be referenced or are referenced incorrectly.
SATISFACTORY

Data are analyzed appropriately using the correct statistical tests. All of the relevant descriptive and inferential statistics are reported. Findings are clearly summarized in plain English. Few errors in APA style formatting of results. Tables/figures are correctly referenced where appropriate.
EXCEPTIONAL

Data are analyzed appropriately, and all relevant descriptive and inferential statistics are reported in a clear, easy to follow way in error-free APA style. Findings are succinctly summarized in plain English. Results are very easy to comprehend, and tables/figures are refereed to when appropriate.
Discussion

POOR

Information is not well organized. Main findings may not be summarized, interpreted, or linked back to original hypotheses. Future directions are not well flushed-out. Statements of fact are not supported with citations.
SUBSTANDARD

Main findings are summarized. Some attempt is made to link the results to the original hypotheses/introduction, although this relationship may not be logical or fully comprehensible. There may be some statements of fact not supported by citations. Superficial future directions are provided.
SATISFACTORY

Main findings are summarized and clearly tied back to the introduction and primary hypothesis. Statements of fact are supported with appropriate supporting citations. Paragraphs are well organized and flow logically from one to the next. Results are discussed in the context of the broader literature, and thoughtful future directions are proposed.
EXCEPTIONAL

Accomplishes everything outlined under "Satisfactory" requirements. Additionally, provides exceptional and thought provoking analysis of the findings and places them in the context of the broader literature on this topic. Provides well reasoned and empirically supported suggestions for future directions.
In-Text Citations and Reference Page

POOR

Reference page contains no scholarly academic resources, only internet webpages or no reference page. Formatting of references does not follow APA guidelines. No APA style in-text citations used throughout document.
SUBSTANDARD

References page contains an insufficient number of peer-reviewed citations. Formatting may not adhere to current APA guidelines. Formatting of in-text citations does not always follow APA guidelines.
SATISFACTORY

Reference page contains the appropriate number of scholarly academic resource and text reference. Both the reference page and in-text citations follow most APA guidelines.
EXCEPTIONAL

Reference page meets or exceeds the required number of relevant peer-reviewed publications. Both in-text citations and the reference page perfectly adhere to APA guidelines.
Tables, Figures, and Appendix

POOR

No tables, figures, or appendix (when appropriate) are provided.
SUBSTANDARD

Some tables, figures, and appendix (when appropriate) are provided, but they are incomplete or lack the appropriate information. Formatting does not adhere to APA guidelines.
SATISFACTORY

The appropriate tables, figures, and appendix (if relevant) are provided. The information presented is comprehensible (axes labeled, captions provided, etc.) There are few formatting errors.
EXCEPTIONAL

Tables, figures, and appendix (if appropriate) contain all relevant information and are clearly labeled. Error bars and figure legends are clear and easily comprehensible. APA format is strictly applied.
Writing Style

POOR

Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
SUBSTANDARD

Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
SATISFACTORY

Few grammatical errors, but sentences could be clearer and more precise.
EXCEPTIONAL
