My Culture Project
My Culture Project
This project will give students a chance to explore their own ancestry and develop an understanding on how Old World cultures play a role in many of the traditions that are impactful in their lives. This project will consist of a 500-2000 word typed essay and a presentation. This presentation can either be made by using a Tri-fold board or creating a PowerPoint presentation. The students will present their projects to the class.

Meets minimum word count. Has few grammatical and spelling errors. Student attempts to relate to the chosen culture. Chosen culture information is present and identifiable. Student has less than 5 examples of culture and where that culture came from. Student has a thesis statement however it is not clear. Receives less than a 10 score on writing rubric but higher than 7.
Meets Standard Expectation
Exceeds minimum word count (more than 1 page to 2.5 pages pages) or student exceeds maximum word count(Over 3 pages). Student gives a minimum of 5 examples of their own culture and examples of where that culture came from. The student has a thesis statement that is easily identified in the introduction. Student shows an understanding of how their lives are impacted by chosen culture. Chosen culture information is well presented. Receives at least a 10 score on writing rubric.
Above Expectation
Word count is maximized (3 pages) without exceeding 2000. Essay is grammatical and spelling error free. Student shows a clear understanding of how chosen culture relates to their life and gives multiple examples. Chosen culture information is plentiful and well presented. Student shows a clear understanding of the region and its cultural impact on the world. Receives above a 10 score on writing rubric.

Meets minimum slide count or tri-fold board shows effort and an attempt at organization. Mostly reflective of information in essay. Does contain a map, chart, or graph.
Meets Standard Expectation
Meets or exceeds slide minimum. Slides or board are neatly decorated, organized and easily understood. It is clear that the information in the essay is reflected. Contains at least on map, chart, or graph.
Above Expectation
Exceeds slide minimum. Slides and board are very detailed and organized in a way that is easily understood. Board or slides are decorated with time and effort apparent. Information in essay is clearly apparent. Contains multiple self-made maps, charts, or graphs.
Oral Presentation
Below Expectation
Presentation is short and shows little thought. Student shows little or no understanding of chosen culture.
Approaches Expectation
Presentation shows thought and is of appropriate length but is missing key components represented in essay and created presentation. Student shows an understanding of chosen culture but lacks ability to define details.

Presentation has clearly been practiced. Presentation is of appropriate length of 90 seconds. Student includes key components of project. Student shows an understanding of the chosen culture and is able to discuss details about the chosen culture.

Student shows a vast understanding of chosen culture and is able to discuss specifics of chosen culture in detail. Student is well prepared and delivers a polished presentation of appropriate length of 90 seconds.
