Student has a stronghold on the content, methodology and conclusions of the article and is able to effectively "teach" the class. No mistakes are made with regard to content knowledge.

Student has a basic understanding of the content. Articles findings are effectively communicated but show shortcomings in mastery of the material or in explanation of findings.
OK

Student has only a superficial or limited understanding of content. Mistakes were made during the presentation. The main findings of the article, methodology or conclusions of the paper are explained incorrectly or not explained clearly.
Poor

Student has little to no understanding of the content addressed in the presentation and does not communicate the findings or methodology of the article clearly.
Conclusion

Excellent

Conclusion reviews information presented, restates the findings and ends with a clear summary of the "take home points" of the article.
Good

Conclusion fails to do ONE of the following: review of information, restatement of findings or summarizing of take home points.
OK

Conclusion fails to do TWO of the previous criteria.
Poor

Speech ends without an official conclusion.
Visuals

Excellent

Student makes excellent use of visual aids. Employs PowerPoint, and handouts to effectively communicate key messages. Visuals are visually pleasing, non-crowded and work well to support the speaker and convey information.
Good

Visuals are generally good. Small mistakes may be present but do not interfere with the effective functioning of the aids.
OK

Mistakes in the visuals are distracting from the presentation. Visuals do not serve to effectively communicate main findings.
Poor

Visuals are missing.

Student speaks clearly and succinctly, maintains eye contact with all members of the audience, gestures natually, and shows preparedness. Minimal use of notes.

Student makes eye contact only with professor or seems stiff and unnatural. Student relies too heavily on notes or rambles.

Student reads from notes or seems unrehearsed.
Poor

Student is obviously unprepared or "winging" it.
Question & Answer

Excellent

Student answers questions directly and clearly. Answers to questions are succinct, correct and brief. During Q&A, it's apparent that the student has a deep mastery of the material.
Good

Student provides good answers to the questions but may ramble. Answers address the question directly. Students knowledge of the material appears deeper than is evident in the initial presentation.
OK

Student doesn't answer the questions directly or the answer is off topic. Student rambles or filibusters in order to seem well prepared.
Poor

Student cannot answer the majority of questions answered, provides off-topic answers and / or seems undereducated on the topic.
