Spanish Song Translation Rubric

Students must translate a (school appropriate) song sung in Spanish to English. The song must be a Spanish song.

Translation Project
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 3 pts	Good 5 pts
Content Students will bring a copy of the original song lyrics and play the song in Spanish. The students will then include a full translation of the lyrics which may be found online or also with the help of an online translator.	Poor The translation does not explain the original author's main points, but only some of them. Many ideas are left out.	Fair The translation does explain all the points the original author makes, but is incomplete or confusing.	Good The translation hits all major points the original author makes. The translation completely renders every idea and does not leave anything out.
Presentation Students will share the spanish lyrics and the audio of the song. Students will then go through the English translation for their chosen song with the class.	Poor Sloppy handwriting or cross outs are used. The presentation looks rushed with many mistakes. If it is fully typed there are a lot of errors.	Fair It is clear and neat, but it looks unprofessional - pictures are sloppy, handwriting is sloppy, and	Good The presentation looks like it has gone through 2 or more drafts. There are no cross outs and the handwriting is clear and can be easily understood.
Mechanics	Poor There are many spelling and grammar errors. Commas, periods, and quotation marks are left out. Capital letters are used incorrectly.	Fair There are some spelling and grammar errors, but the author uses commas, periods, and quotation marks correctly most of the time.	Good There are no spelling mistakes, no grammar mistakes, and all punctuation is used correctly.
Vocabulary Students will find key vocabulary words to teach the class.	Poor Students did not pull any vocabulary to teach the classs.	Fair Students pull a few key words to teach the class.	Good Students pull a vast amount of vocabulary to identify and teach the class.
Grammar Students will identify different grammar structures throughout the song.	Poor Sudents do not identify and object pronouns or different verb tenses like the preterite or imperfect in their project.	Fair Sudents identify some object pronouns and different verb tenses like the preterite or imperfect in their project.	Good Sudents do a good job identifying object pronouns and different verb tenses like the preterite or imperfect in their project.
