Mitosis/Meiosis Digital Flipbook
Students will reconstruct the processes of mitosis/meiosis. All steps in mitosis/meiosis must be labeled correctly and identifiable. Stop Motion Studio will be used to make a digital motion animation (similar to a digital flipbook). Students may choose their own materials for the reconstruction.

Construction / Materials

Exceptional

Appropriate materials were selected and creatively modified in ways that made them even better. Student went above and beyond.
Skilled

Appropriate materials were selected and there was an attempt at creative modification to make them even better.
Proficient

Appropriate materials were selected and modified to create a model.
Developing

Some appropriate materials were selected but minimal effort was applied to create structure.
Inadequate

Inappropriate materials were selected and contributed to a product that performed poorly.
Quality of work

Exceptional

Great care taken in reconstruction process so that the structure is neat, attractive and follows the process accurately.
Skilled

Reconstruction was careful and accurate for the most part, but 1-2 details could have been refined for a more attractive product.
Proficient

Reconstruction accurately followed the process, but 3-4 details could have been refined for a more attractive product.
Developing

Reconstruction appears careless or haphazard. Many details need refinement for a strong or attractive product
Inadequate

Reconstruction appears almost non-existent. Student supplied a product that has no organization or evidence of the process.
Meiosis/Mitosis criteria

Exceptional

Included all phases of the cell cycle and phases of mitosis. Labels were applied in correct places.
Skilled

Included most phases of the cell cycle and phases of mitosis (1 label left out). Can still see specific structures and difference between mitosis.
Proficient

Included some of the phases of the cell cycle and phases of mitosis (2-3 labels left out). Can still see differences between the phases of mitosis.
Developing

Included very few required phases of the cell cycle and phases of mitosis (4-5 labels left out). Little recognizable steps for mitosis.
Inadequate

Included almost no required phases of the cell cycle and phases of mitosis (no labels present). Product presented makes it hard to recognize the steps of mitosis.
Accuracy

Exceptional

All aspects of mitosis are completed with no mistakes. Structure and chromosome pairing, etc. are accurate.
Skilled

All aspects of mitosis are completed with 1 mistake in structure and chromosome pairing, etc.
Proficient

All aspects of mitosis are completed with 2-3 mistakes in structure and chromosome pairing, etc.
Developing

All aspects of mitosis are completed with 4-5 mistakes in structure and chromosome pairing, etc.
Inadequate

All aspects of mitosis are completed with more than 5 mistakes in structure and chromosome pairing, etc.
Presentation

Exceptional

Able to completely identity each step of mitosis. Animation is smooth, attractive, and attention is paid to details.
Skilled

Able to completely identity each step of mitosis. Animation is shaky but attractive, little attention is paid to details.
Proficient

Some steps of mitosis are hard to identify. Animation is shaky and unattractive.
Developing

Most steps of mitosis are hard to identify. Animation is unclear, unattractive, and there is evidence of little effort.
Inadequate

Unable to accurately identify and mitosis. Animation shows no effort.
Voice Quality

Exceptional

Voice quality is clear and
consistently audible
throughout the
presentation.
The pace (rhythm and
voice punctuation) fits the
story line and helps the
audience really “get into”
and understand cellular
mitosis.
Skilled

Voice quality is clear
and consistently audible
throughout the majority
of the presentation.
The pacing (rhythm and
voice punctuation) is
relatively engaging.
Occasionally speaks too
fast or too slowly to
understand cellular
mitosis.
Proficient

Voice quality is clear
and consistently audible
through some of the
presentation.
Tries to use pacing
(rhythm and voice
punctuation), but is
often noticeable that
the pacing does not sell
the audience to the
concept of cellular
mitosis.
Developing

Voice quality needs
more attention.
No attempt to match
the pace of the
presentation to the
information
delivered. Audience
was left confused by
the pacing and did
not grasp the concept
of cellular mitosis.
Inadequate

No voice given
