Quality of Work	Distinguished Great care taken in construction process so that the structure is neat, attractive and follows plans accurately.	Proficient Construction was careful and accurate for the most part, but 1-2 details could have been refined for a more attractive product.	Apprentice Construction accurately followed the plans, but 3-4 details could have been refined for a more attractive product.	Novice Construction appears careless or haphazard. Many details need refinement for a strong or attractive product	Zero Construction appears almost non-existent. Student supplied some material that has no organization or evidence of product.
DNA Criteria	Distinguished Included all required aspects of DNA model.	Proficient Included most required aspects of DNA model (1 criteria left out). Can still see double-helix structure, and base pairings.	Apprentice Included some of the required aspects of DNA model (2-3 criteria left out). Can still see double-helix structure.	Novice Included very few required aspects of DNA model (4-5 criteria left out). DNA model incomplete with little recognized structures.	Zero Included almost no required aspects of DNA model (more than 5 criteria left out). Materials used make it hard to recognize model as DNA.
Base Pairing	Distinguished Student has correctly labeled the bases (A, T, C, G) on the structure and has paired each base with its correct base pair.	Proficient Student has correctly labeled most of the bases (A, T, C, G) on the structure with 1 error. Most base pairs are paired correctly with 1-2 errors.	Apprentice 2 of the 4 bases are improperly labeled on the structure. Students has incorrectly paired 3-5 base pairs.	Novice 3 of the 4 bases are improperly labeled on the structure. Student has incorrectly paired 6-9 base pairs.	Zero All base pairs are labeled incorrectly on the structure. Student has incorrectly paired 10 or more base pairs.
Accuracy	Distinguished All aspects of DNA model are completed with no mistakes. Structures are labeled accurately.	Proficient All aspects of DNA model are completed with 1 mistake in the labeling of the structures.
