Pointillism: Watercolor Painting Dream Room: One-point perspective Students will create a small watercolor painting using the technique of pointillism. Rubric Code: T477XX By pamela72 Draft Private Rubric Subject: Arts and Design Type: Project Grade Levels: 6-8

Dots	2 Student applied dots with Q-tip. Dots are closely packed in all areas except in areas where light is represented. (The dots are more closely packed together in the darker areas.)	1 Student applied dots with Q-tip but the dots are spaced out with white space in between throughout the entire painting instead of only in the darkest areas of the painting.	0 Student "painted" long brushstrokes with the Q-tip rather than making dots.
Colors	2 Student placed colors next to each other that optically mix when looked at from a distance to create a new color. (Used two or more colors in an area.)	1 Student placed two or more colors in an area but did not choose colors that appropriately blend to make a new color at a distance.	0 Random colors were used throughout the painting. Student did not understand the concept of "optical color mixing".
Value	2 Student represented light and shadows in the painting. Light colors were applied first, then dark colors to help create different values in the painting.	1 Light and shadow is visible in the painting but incorrectly placed.	0 Painting appears to be "colored in" with no values represented. (no light or shadow)

Craftsmanship	2 Dots are neatly and carefully painted. Student carefully erased pencil lines.	1 Most dots are carefully painted, however, more painting could have been neater. Not all pencil lines were erased.	0 Painting appears messy. Paper has tears or smudges.
Time and Effort	2 Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and creation of the painting.	1 Most of the class time was used wisely, but the student could have been more focused during the creation of the piece.	0 Class time was not used wisely and student put little effort into the assignment. Assignment is incomplete.
