Each role play will have a "counselor" and a "student" as well as someone observing the session. Observers score the "counselor" in each of the areas below.

The counselor used minimal facilitation to further discussion by the student. Interviewer interrupted the interviewee and did not pay close attention to the client.
Good

The counselor used facilitation some of the time, though awkward at times. Student seemed hesitant to make more meaningful statements. Counselor paid some attention to the student.
Great

The counselor used facilitation well. Student responded with more meaningful statements. Counselor did not speak too fast or too slowly. Counselor was attentive to the answers of the student.
Non-Verbal Communication

The counselor's body language did not seem to communicate fully focused attention on the student

The counselor generally seemed focused on the student but some aspects of body language (eye contact/body posture/tone of voice) could have been improved

The counselor made plans, but they did not seem appropriate given the discussion that took place.

The counselor used goal setting skills well OR determined the presence of a crisis (in which case, the counselor began discussing the referral and determining the student's willingness to utilize further help).

Interviewer used questions more than open-ended statements.
